Ideas For Organizing Jewelry
By Angeline Tang

Do you put much consideration into organizing and storing your jewelry? Do your necklaces, bracelets and all sorts of chains seem to get tangled in a heap? Are you always trying to find both earrings of the pair that you plan to wear? If you are guilty of leaving your jewelry in a knotted mess or have many missing earrings, do not despair. Here are some great and easy tips for the organization of your jewelry.

  • Tackle boxes are very good for storing and organizing your jewelry. They normally have ample room in their many little compartments for storing anything from rings to pendants.
  • All necklaces should be hung if it is at all possible, so they do not turn up in a knotted mess. Some individuals have used ice trays as well as small boxes or by hanging them with an accordion type wall hanging structure.
  • Another way is to string the necklace through a plastic drinking straw and then the ends brought together to close the clasp, thereby keeping the chain from becoming tangled in itself or with other chains. These you can then lay inside your dresser drawers or inside your jewelry box.
  • Rings can be organized and stored on ring trees or in a nicely fabric covered box as well as in a compartment of a jewelry box.
  • Tie racks can make interesting displays for hanging your bracelets, necklaces and pendants as well as watches and rings.
  • Keep both earrings of a pair together so that neither will be lost, but stay together. The way you would do this is to lock the earrings together by sliding one post of an earring into the loop of the other earring’s back, then slide the back onto the earring that is being slid into the first. Please note that this will work only with butterfly back earrings.
  • With hoop earrings, you can lock the earrings together by placing the open hoop into the closed hoop and securing the clasp, thereby keeping each of the set together to prevent loss.
  • You can also staple either a piece of cross stitch fabric or a window screen cut to fit to the back of an old picture frame. Place your earring into the holes already provided and attach the back of the earring on the other side. This method also works wonderfully well for hook earrings.
  • Plastic ice cube trays of different colors are handy for keeping small jewelry pieces such as rings, earrings and pendants. The ice cube trays are stackable and fit into most drawers.
  • One great idea for organizing jewelry is to use the roll up type of make up bag; they usually have several different pockets, some with a zipper closure as well as some with Velcro closures. These come in handy when you do travel with your jewelry.
  • Hardware trays, those small little pop top-lidded trays that you can purchase nails and screws in make for great jewelry organizers that you can see through. Some of them also come in packages that are multi-trays, which would give you even more room for keeping your jewelry.
  • Utility trays for sorting silverware are also helpful, as there are several separated compartments for use. Small desk organizers and special dresser drawer organizers would work as well.
