Description This splendid antique jewelery box includes a musical mechanism which no longer works. The box is otherwise in poor to fair condition with chips, marks and scratches. The decorative rope fittings are also loose and the mirrors and stained and corroded. Depite the flaws (and perhaps enhanced because of them) are the wonderful hand-painted Japanese landscape scenes visible on the front and top including Mt Fuji with boats and a Shinto shrine torii gate along with the images of auspicious pines. We really like this item which is the only one of its kind we have ever had the pleasure to bring to eBay. The box likely dates from the mid Showa period (1926-1989) or before.
